E. coli Alert: Kebab Shop Beef Linked to Illness
27 May
Summary
- Public health alert issued for The Kebab Shop beef kofta.
- Contamination risk is from Shiga toxin-producing E. coli.
- Products were sold in California, Florida, and Texas.

A public health alert has been issued for beef kofta products served at The Kebab Shop restaurants across California, Florida, and Texas. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) identified a potential contamination with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli in these items.
The affected beef kofta was produced in January by Olympia Food Industries and supplied to The Kebab Shop. All restaurant locations ceased selling these beef products on May 18. No recall was issued as the products are no longer available for sale.
This alert is connected to an ongoing E. coli outbreak investigation in California, where nine people have fallen ill. Consumers with leftover beef kofta should discard it immediately. Anyone experiencing E. coli symptoms after consuming the product should contact a healthcare provider.
