22 Feb
Summary
- Drummer Steven Kopacz had his entire stomach removed at age 33.
- He was diagnosed with stage four cancer returning in his rectum.
- Kopacz advocates for self-advocacy in health and raises awareness.

Steven Kopacz, a drummer for the band Go Radio, was diagnosed with stage three gastric adenocarcinoma at just 33 years old in November 2017. What he initially thought was an ulcer turned out to be a widespread cancer, resulting in the removal of his entire stomach and 27 lymph nodes. This diagnosis was highly unusual for someone so young and healthy.
Kopacz underwent chemotherapy and adapted to life without a stomach, experiencing conditions like dumping syndrome and relying on supplements. He was declared cancer-free and later welcomed a daughter, Saige, in 2021. However, in April 2025, he experienced severe constipation, which led to the discovery of a two-inch mass in his rectal area.
He received a second diagnosis of stage four stomach cancer that had metastasized to his rectum. Alongside living without a stomach, Kopacz now uses a colostomy bag and is undergoing further chemotherapy. He is actively sharing his experience to raise awareness for young people facing cancer and to encourage others to advocate for their health when they suspect something is wrong.
