Compounding the challenge, the specific Bundibugyo virus strain has no approved vaccines or treatments, although clinical trials are underway. Efforts to control the outbreak, including gathering restrictions and travel limitations, have disrupted life in the affected provinces, particularly in Ituri, which is also grappling with rebel violence.
