Children's Services Closed: Demand Overwhelms Charity
26 Jun
Summary
- Children's outreach services have a waiting list until September 2026.
- Charity could only support one-third of over 1,500 referrals last year.
- Increased demand forces temporary closure of new referrals.

Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service (NDAS) has made the difficult decision to temporarily close its waiting list for children's domestic abuse outreach services. This closure is necessitated by a significant increase in demand and is expected to last until at least September 2026.
Last year alone, NDAS received more than 1,500 referrals for its services. However, capacity constraints meant that only approximately one-third of these children and families could be supported. The charity emphasized that this situation reflects the immense pressure on domestic abuse services, where demand now outstrips available provisions.
While NDAS is not accepting new referrals, all existing ones remain on their system. The charity is regularly reviewing the situation and stated that the closure is necessary to maintain safe, high-quality support for those currently in their care.
