A premium, subscription-based dog food company named Years is facing a recall after receiving numerous reports linking its products to a severe eye condition in pets. As of August 16, 2026, the company had received 57 reports of suspected dry eye, affecting approximately 0.1% of its customer base. This issue is believed to be potentially connected to the buckwheat ingredient used in their meals.
Years has alerted its 40,000 customers to stop feeding their pets the recalled food immediately and to consult a veterinarian if any symptoms are observed. Symptoms can include eye redness, cloudiness, discharge, and discomfort. The company has paused subscriptions for an initial six-week period and plans to use quinoa as a replacement for buckwheat in their recipes.
One affected customer, David Felton from London, reported that his dog Cookie developed eye issues in April 2026 after consuming the food for over two years, leading to significant veterinary expenses. The specialist diagnosed Cookie with bilateral dry eye disease, requiring daily treatment. Mr. Felton expressed concern and disappointment, highlighting the trust placed in premium food brands for pet health.
