Doctors Save Passenger's Life Mid-Flight
5 Oct
Summary
- Three doctors saved a passenger with dangerously low oxygen levels on a flight.
- Steroids administered mid-air improved saturation, preventing diversion.
- Patient received further treatment and is now in stable condition.
A critical mid-flight medical emergency was averted on a Delhi-Aizawl IndiGo flight when three Mizo doctors intervened to save a passenger's life.
The passenger, returning home after medical treatment, experienced a sudden drop in oxygen saturation to dangerously low levels shortly after takeoff.
Responding to the cabin crew's call, general surgeon Dr. Willie Lalhruaitluanga, pediatrician Dr. F. Remthangpuii, and gastroenterologist Dr. Benjamin Khiangte administered emergency care.
Despite oxygen masks, the patient's saturation remained critically low, prompting discussions of diverting the flight. The doctors administered steroids, which temporarily stabilized the patient.
Upon landing in Aizawl, the passenger was taken for specialized care, including intubation and dialysis, and is now reported to be in stable condition, having been taken off ventilatory support.
