8 Sep
Summary
- A district-wide leprosy detection survey is scheduled from September 11 to 24.
- The survey aims to identify leprosy in its initial stages to prevent disability.
- ASHA workers and health workers will conduct household visits for screening.

A district-wide leprosy detection survey commenced on September 11 and will continue until September 24. The primary objective of this two-week initiative is to identify cases of leprosy in their earliest stages.
This proactive approach aims to ensure that individuals diagnosed receive prompt treatment, thereby preventing the onset of any potential disabilities. The survey involves dedicated teams comprising ASHA workers and selected male health workers.
These teams will conduct thorough household visits, screening all family members for signs of the disease. Any suspected cases identified will be referred to Primary Health Centre medical teams for further evaluation and confirmation.
Upon diagnosis, patients will immediately commence multidrug therapy (MDT). The District Leprosy, AIDS, and TB Control Officer emphasized that both the screening process and the subsequent treatment are entirely free of cost. Early detection remains crucial for effective management and prevention of complications.
