Dharavi Health Centre's X-ray & Sono Units Silent
4 Sep
Summary
- X-ray and sonography services at Dharavi's urban health center are non-operational.
- Essential medical equipment at the center has been non-functional for three months.
- The health center faces potential transformation into a new facility with dialysis and IVF.

The urban health centre in Dharavi, often referred to as 'Chota Sion,' has ceased operating its X-ray and sonography services for the past three months. Patients in the locality previously relied on these subsidized facilities or opted for treatment at Sion Hospital. Local doctors have been redirecting patients to these services due to their affordability compared to private options.
Dr. Pramod Ingale, dean of Sion Hospital, stated that the non-functional X-ray machines were CSR donations from the Covid-19 era and are currently unusable. He indicated that the low patient volume for X-rays does not justify the expense of new equipment. Sion Hospital has plans to convert the 200-bed health centre into a new facility, potentially including dialysis and IVF services, while gradually reducing its current capacity.
