Detergent Found in Maharashtra Milk Supply!

A recent investigation has exposed the alarming presence of detergent in milk samples collected across Maharashtra. Health experts are issuing warnings about the significant health risks associated with consuming milk adulterated with detergent. This practice involves adding detergent to synthetic milk to produce a thick foam, deceiving consumers into believing it is genuine.

Consumption of such adulterated milk can result in severe health issues, including food poisoning, vomiting, diarrhea, and intestinal ulcers. Caustic soda and other harmful chemicals in detergents can be absorbed into the bloodstream, potentially damaging the liver and kidneys over time, with children being particularly vulnerable.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) utilizes sophisticated scientific tests to detect adulteration. For instance, the addition of Bromocresol Purple Solution causes adulterated milk to turn purple, while starch contamination turns it blue-black, and urea turns it yellow. These methods enable the FDA to identify fake milk and protect public health.

The Maharashtra FDA has intensified its efforts against milk adulteration, recently seizing large quantities of fake milk and destroying adulterated products. However, the crackdown has also led to protests from milk vendors concerned about new packaging regulations. They argue that an immediate switch to packaged milk is impractical, citing infrastructure limitations and the short shelf life of fresh milk.
