A new initiative, named 'Vibe,' is being introduced in secondary schools across Derbyshire to assist young individuals in ceasing vaping and smoking. This service will provide confidential support, personalized coaching, and nicotine replacement therapy to students aged 12 to 18 who opt for referral.
The launch addresses significant concerns about youth substance use, with county council data indicating around 3,000 pupils in Derbyshire currently vape regularly and 750 smoke. This service is a key component of Derbyshire's public health strategy, aiming to achieve a smoke-free status by 2030.
Funded by the Derbyshire County Council's public health team and operated by Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, Vibe will initially be accessible in ten secondary schools. It aims to empower young people with the confidence and tools needed to quit, thereby preventing long-term health issues.
