Six GP surgeries in Derbyshire are poised to expand their services, promising an additional 82,000 appointments annually. This expansion is made possible by a significant investment of almost £1.5 million secured from government funds. The allocated money will facilitate necessary upgrades and reconfigurations within the existing surgery facilities.
Work has already commenced at various locations, including Chatsworth Road Medical Centre in Chesterfield, Matlock and Ashover Practice's Imperial Road site, Lime Grove Medical Centre in Matlock, The Park Surgery in Heanor, and both Stubley Medical Centre and The Valleys Medical Centre in Dronfield. These enhancements are intended to bolster the capacity of local healthcare providers.
Dr. Amanda Sullivan, head of the Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) cluster, highlighted that this "major investment" is essential for addressing "ever-growing demand." She commended the dedication of GP teams, who delivered over 7.27 million appointments across the region in the 2025/26 period, and acknowledged that further investment will be required to sustain and improve services.
