Derby Pub Smashes Defibrillator Fund After Fan's Tragic Death
1 Feb
Summary
- A pub smashed fundraising goals for a defibrillator after a fan's death.
- Over £3,700 was raised, far exceeding the initial £1,500 target.
- Extra funds will now be used to install more defibrillators across Derby.

A pub in Derby has successfully surpassed its fundraising goal for a defibrillator, which was initiated after a Derby County supporter collapsed and later died from a heart attack. The Smithfield pub has raised over £3,700, significantly exceeding the £1,500 initially needed to purchase the life-saving equipment.
Pub owner Ben Miller stated he was overwhelmed by the community's generosity and spirit, noting that the extra funds will now be directed towards fitting defibrillators in other parts of Derby. The pub's staff initially set up a fundraising page, which quickly gained momentum and exceeded expectations.
The revised ambition is to raise enough money for three more defibrillators, with the pub seeking suggestions from the community on where they are most needed. Another local pub, The Cross Keys in Ockbrook, is also participating in fundraising efforts.
