To combat the intense summer heat, the Delhi government will distribute specialized summer kits to approximately one lakh construction workers across the city. This initiative is a key component of the government's heatwave action plan, designed to safeguard laborers engaged in strenuous outdoor activities.
The distribution targets workers most vulnerable to heat stress and dehydration. Each kit is comprehensive, containing items such as instant energy glucose, premium quality sattu, ORS sachets, a cotton towel, a sunlight protection cap, prickly heat powder, a one-litre water bottle, and sharbat concentrate. These essentials will be provided in a durable backpack.
The Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board is overseeing the procurement and distribution through a Public Sector Unit. The estimated cost for each kit is Rs 1,890. Priority will be given to workers on active construction sites, with beneficiary numbers estimated based on the board's registered worker database, considering workforce mobility and other logistical factors.
