Delhi recorded 9,211 deaths from respiratory diseases in 2024, an increase from 8,801 in 2023, as per recent government data. These fatalities stem from common conditions like asthma, pneumonia, lung cancer, and tuberculosis, all contributing to breathing difficulties.
The overall number of deaths in the national capital rose to 1.39 lakh in 2024, up from 1.32 lakh in 2023. This indicates an upward trend in mortality rates, with an average of 381 deaths per day in 2024 compared to 363 in 2023.
While the total number of live births saw a slight decrease to 3,06,459 in 2024 from 3,15,087 in 2023, the death rate per 1,000 persons increased to 6.37 in 2024 from 6.16 in 2023.
