Delhi Raids Uncover Illegal Drug Trade
16 Dec
Summary
- Delhi conducted 27 raids on drug premises last week.
- At least 10 firms were found selling illegal or spurious medicines.
- Samples of common medicines were collected for lab testing.

Over the past week, the Delhi government initiated a significant crackdown on illegal and counterfeit drugs, executing 27 raids across the capital. These coordinated efforts by the drugs control department and Delhi Police targeted drug trading premises, leading to the identification of at least 10 firms allegedly involved in selling spurious medicines.
During these inspections, officials collected 204 samples of common medicines and medical supplies, including cough syrups, paracetamol, and betadine. These samples have been sent for laboratory testing, with results expected within 60 days, after which further legal actions will be pursued. Preliminary findings suggest a wider distribution network extending beyond Delhi.
The health minister emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for substandard drugs and assured that enforcement drives will continue to safeguard public health. The raids specifically focused on key wholesale areas like Bhagirath Palace and Sadar Bazar, uncovering violations such as selling medical devices without a valid license.
