Delhi Cracks Down on Fake Cancer Medicines
10 Feb
Summary
- Delhi government inspected 25 shops for spurious cancer drugs.
- 33 legal samples of anti-cancer drugs collected for testing.
- Six firms found violating drug rules; legal action initiated.

In a recent initiative to combat the spread of counterfeit cancer medications, Delhi's Drug Control department inspected 25 pharmacies and distributors across various city locations. This operation focused on areas surrounding major hospitals and pharmaceutical markets. The inspections yielded 33 legal samples of anti-cancer drugs for laboratory analysis, alongside 22 specimen samples.
During the drive, six companies were identified as non-compliant with the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, prompting the initiation of legal proceedings. Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized the sustained nature of such drives, stating that government hospitals have been instructed to procure medicines solely from licensed sources and to promptly report any suspected irregularities.
The health minister highlighted that compromises in the quality of anti-cancer drugs pose severe risks to patient safety. Consequently, the surveillance of the drug supply chain has been intensified to ensure that only safe and effective medicines reach patients and healthcare facilities.
