Free MRI & CT Scans Now Faster at Delhi's LNJP Hospital

Lok Nayak Hospital in Delhi has significantly enhanced its diagnostic capabilities with the unveiling of a 3-Tesla MRI and a dual-source 256-slice CT scanner. Previously, patients faced waiting periods of up to two to three years for MRI scans due to equipment shortages. The new machines, costing approximately Rs 40 crore and funded by Indian Oil Corporation Limited's CSR program, are anticipated to double the hospital's MRI and CT scan capacity.

These advanced machines will expedite diagnoses for various conditions, including kidney stones, and detect serious illnesses like cancer earlier. The tests remain free for Delhi residents. The CT scanner's dual-source technology allows faster imaging of moving organs like the heart, while the 3-Tesla MRI offers sharper brain and nervous system images compared to standard 1.5-Tesla machines.

Patients are expected to experience improved comfort and reduced anxiety due to features like a wider MRI bore, calming in-machine entertainment, and automated adjustments. The hospital anticipates increasing daily MRI scans from 30-40 to 80-100, and CT scans from around 150 to 300, thereby alleviating diagnostic burdens and speeding up testing.

Beyond imaging, LNJP Hospital also boasts Delhi's first government hospital Medical Genetics department and is expanding Mission ANMOL for rare disease screening. Its unique Lactation Management Unit supports critically ill infants.
