Delhi Heatwave: Mobile Relief Units Hit Streets
7 May
Summary
- 13 mobile heat relief units launched to combat Delhi's soaring temperatures.
- Units provide hydration, basic medical aid, and protective gear in heat-prone areas.
- Heat Action Plan 2026 targets vulnerable groups, including labourers and children.

With soaring temperatures in the capital, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta initiated an on-ground heat relief response by flagging off 13 mobile heat relief units on May 7, 2026. These vans, equipped with essentials like cool drinking water, ORS packets, and first-aid kits, are deployed in vulnerable locations across Delhi to mitigate dehydration and heatstroke.
Gupta also unveiled the government's Heat Action Plan 2026. This plan focuses on protecting at-risk groups including labourers, the homeless, and children. Schools will implement a 'Water Bell System,' and outdoor work between 1 pm and 4 pm is advised to be halted for labourers.
Hospitals have bolstered their capacity with extra ORS packets, ice packs, and 'cool rooms.' Long-term measures in the action plan include expanding green cover and developing climate-resilient infrastructure. The initiative is a direct effort to ensure relief reaches citizens during the peak summer months.
