- Strict patient selection ensures safety for day-care BMT procedures.

Bone marrow transplants, previously requiring extended hospital stays, are now being performed on a day-care basis, offering a more cost-effective solution for certain blood cancer patients. This innovative approach significantly reduces treatment duration and financial burden, with costs dropping to ₹4.9 lakh from the conventional ₹12-16 lakh.
At Trustwell Hospitals, a 44-year-old multiple myeloma patient underwent an Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation as an outpatient. While the transplant itself doesn't necessitate admission, patients are monitored daily for up to eight days. Despite a brief admission for a fever, the patient's overall recovery was around 18 days.
This day-care model, adapted from Western practices, is suitable for younger, healthier patients living close to the hospital with strong family support. Intensive counseling for patients and caregivers is crucial. Hospital management believes this approach will enhance accessibility to advanced cancer care for carefully selected individuals.
