An endoscopy revealed inflammation at the base of his throat, leading to the diagnosis of stage 3 esophageal cancer. Oncologists confirmed the cancer was caught at a curable stage. Kimmel underwent a course of chemotherapy and radiation, followed by surgery to remove the cancerous lesion. At one point, he required a feeding tube due to his inability to swallow.
Having recently completed his immunotherapy treatment, Kimmel is now in recovery and eagerly anticipating his daughter's wedding on May 16. He draws inspiration from his family's history of longevity, with his mother currently 98 years old.
