A vital mothers' support service in Cumbria has received a significant financial boost of £70,000 from the Postcode and National Lotteries. This crucial funding has averted the immediate risk of closure for the Happy Mums Foundation's in-person wellbeing groups.
The foundation, established in 2015, aids over 1,000 families in Cumbria who are experiencing postpartum mental health challenges. Facing funding pressures last month, the organization had considered transitioning its peer support groups online.
However, the grants, totaling £50,000 from the Postcode Lottery and £20,000 from the National Lottery, ensure these real-world safe spaces can continue. Director Lucinda Bray expressed immense relief, highlighting the importance of these groups for mothers, especially in discussing sensitive issues like suicidal thinking, which acts as a preventative factor.
