16 Jun
Summary
- Five people, including a child, fell ill from E. coli.
- The infections occurred after eating 'high rollers' from Costco.
- A child remains in serious condition due to E. coli complications.

At least five individuals, ranging from 7 to 49 years old, have fallen ill after consuming food prepared at a Costco store in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. The outbreak, identified as enterohemorrhagic E. coli O157, led to symptoms including diarrhea and abdominal pain.
Three of the affected individuals have been hospitalized. A young boy, under the age of 10, developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a severe complication, and is currently in serious condition. All five individuals had purchased and eaten "high rollers," a wrap product, from the Costco Moriyama Warehouse store on May 31 and June 1.
In response to the incident, health officials ordered the closure of the store's food preparation area. Costco has since closed its delicatessen, disinfected the area, and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. The company has issued a statement apologizing for the distress caused to those affected.
