Residents in several areas, including Murlinagar, are facing a severe crisis due to consistently contaminated water flowing from their taps. This issue has persisted for over a year, with water often smelling foul and containing visible impurities, rendering it unfit for consumption. The problem has escalated to the point where household water purifiers are failing rapidly, forcing families to spend money on market-purchased drinking water.

Local officials have been repeatedly alerted to the situation, with corporators like Amit Chowdhary expressing frustration over the lack of permanent solutions. Despite temporary cleaning measures, contaminated water continues to be supplied, leading to health problems such as stomach infections among residents. Ashish Mishra from Clay Square highlighted that the crisis extends beyond just water quality, pointing to an old sewer system that risks mixing with water lines.

Residents suspect that leaking sewer lines adjacent to aging water pipelines are the root cause. They are urgently demanding a survey of underground infrastructure and a complete overhaul of the old water and sewer networks. While officials deny the allegations of contaminated supply, residents warn that without immediate action, the situation could indeed become a serious public health emergency.
