Stand-up comedian Aishwarya Mohanraj recently disclosed her experience with rapid weight loss achieved through medication. In early 2021, her weight increased from 51 kg to nearly 70 kg due to health issues like PCOD and hypothyroidism. She eventually began weekly Mounjaro injections, a medication approved for type 2 diabetes and weight management.
Over six months, Mohanraj's weight plummeted from 74 kg to 52 kg, a loss of 22 kg. She described the results as rapid and significant, but not without challenges. Side effects included intense nausea in the first month and substantial hair loss. The cost of the medication was also a major factor, with each shot priced at ₹40,000.
Dr. Palleti Siva Karthik Reddy, a consultant physician, explained that Mounjaro (tirzepatide) acts on hormones regulating blood sugar and appetite. It mimics incretin hormones, slowing stomach emptying and signaling fullness, thus reducing calorie intake. This medication is prescribed for type 2 diabetes, obesity, or metabolic conditions where excess weight impacts health.
