College Students Embrace CBD for Stress Relief
22 Dec
Summary
- Nearly half of college students have tried CBD products.
- Students primarily use CBD to manage anxiety, stress, and sleep.
- Edibles, especially gummies, are the most popular CBD form.
A recent survey by the University of Georgia reveals that almost half of undergraduates have experimented with CBD products. This trend highlights students' efforts to manage common college-related anxieties, stress, and sleep disturbances. The research, published in the Journal of Substance Use, underscores the growing role of CBD as a coping mechanism.
Findings indicate that 48% of surveyed students have used CBD, with over 29% using it monthly or more. Common reasons cited include seeking calm and better sleep. Edibles, particularly gummies, emerged as the most popular consumption method. This popularity is partly attributed to CBD's legal status for individuals 18 and older in most U.S. states.
Despite widespread use, experts caution that CBD products remain unregulated, and their potential risks are not fully understood by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The study also noted that college-aged men were more likely than women to try CBD, a finding that contrasts with higher anxiety diagnoses in women.
