Cipla Foundation and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) are collaborating to establish a new Centre for Pulmonary Medicine in Bengaluru. This advanced facility, located at the Tata IISc Medical School, will significantly boost respiratory healthcare in India. It is designed to provide comprehensive diagnostics, outpatient and inpatient services, and intensive care for patients with lung diseases.
The Centre will focus on improving early diagnosis and driving research into respiratory illnesses such as COPD and asthma. It will also play a crucial role in developing India-specific treatment guidelines and exploring innovative areas like AI-based lung diagnostics and personalized medicine. Furthermore, it will serve as a hub for training pulmonologists and allied specialists.
This partnership aims to address the substantial burden of respiratory diseases in India, exacerbated by factors like air pollution and tobacco use. By integrating care, training, and research, the Centre intends to ensure that medical advancements translate into tangible benefits for communities, especially the most vulnerable, and promote preventive lung health initiatives.
