She was prompted to get checked following the recent passing of her friend, actor James Van Der Beek, who died from stage III colon cancer. Romano, who has a personal history with cancer through her parents and grandmother, is preparing for a PET scan later this week. She expressed nervousness and hope that the cancer will be easily treatable. This health concern adds to a period of vulnerability for Romano, who also experienced an accidental shotgun shrapnel injury approximately 367 days prior. She is leaning on her faith and the support of her family, including her husband Brendan Rooney and their two daughters. Romano stated her intention to raise awareness about cancer screenings.
