20 Feb
Summary
- Children screened for heart disease, blindness, and speech issues.
- Mobile health teams will examine 87,744 children until March.
- 0.14 million adolescents to be screened for anemia and hemoglobin issues.

The Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) is conducting a health screening initiative to identify childhood deformities and diseases, including congenital heart disease (CHD), blindness, and speech impairments. Initially, eleven mobile health teams are examining 87,744 children at anganwadi centers until March. These screenings involve assessments of weight, height, eyesight, nutritional values, and oxygenation levels to diagnose CHD in newborns.
The second phase, scheduled from July to December, will focus on birth defects among school-going children. Approximately 0.14 million adolescents will be screened for anemia and hemoglobin disorders. Through this program, children will receive personalized diet charts and access to free medical interventions, including surgeries, to address detected health issues.
Last year, 78 children received free treatment for CHD. Potential CHD cases identified this year are being referred to Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak for free eco-tests. Specialists provide further treatment based on these results. Ensuring vulnerable children receive timely intervention, particularly between the ages of 0 and 3, is critical for managing CHD.
