Child Dies After Wrong Cancer Drug Injection
12 Mar
Summary
- One child died, two remain critical after incorrect chemotherapy injections.
- Vincristine, meant for IV use, was injected into the bone marrow cavity.
- Hospital suspects criminal activity as the drug was kept in a locked room.

A children's hospital near Tokyo has reported a devastating incident involving three young leukemia patients. One male patient, under the age of 10, died in February, while two others, all under 20, remain in critical condition. These patients underwent chemotherapy injections between January and October of last year.
The drug in question, Vincristine, is typically administered intravenously. However, it was incorrectly injected into the patients' bone marrow cavities, a procedure known to carry a risk of serious neurological complications.
Authorities were alerted after cancer drug remnants were discovered in the patients' spinal fluid. The hospital has not ruled out criminal involvement, noting that the drug was stored in a locked room. The investigation into how this occurred is ongoing.
