Korean Stew Recalled Over Unseen Inspection
2 Oct
Summary
- Over 4,500 pounds of Sempio chicken stew are recalled.
- The stew was imported from Korea without USDA inspection.
- Products were sold in eight different states across the U.S.

A significant recall has been issued for over 4,500 pounds of ready-to-eat Sempio chicken stew. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on September 25, 2026. The affected stew was imported from Korea and did not undergo the mandatory USDA inspection process upon arrival in the United States.
FSIS requires imported meat, poultry, and egg products to be inspected to ensure they meet the same safety and labeling standards as domestic products. Products lacking this verification cannot be guaranteed to meet safety or quality requirements. Federal officials are concerned these recalled items may still be present in consumer pantries or retailer inventories.
The recalled stew is identified by establishment number "GIA15001" and shipping mark "MK-2026-0422-01." These products were produced on March 30, 2026, with a best-by date of September 29, 2027. The FSIS has confirmed these products were distributed for sale in eight U.S. states. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume the stew and to either throw it away or return it to the point of purchase. Retailers are also instructed to remove these products from sale.
