Summary
- Chef Amrita Raichand gained 22 kilos during her pregnancy.
- She emphasizes strength and nutrition over scale numbers.
- Traditional foods like bajra-gond laddoos offer balanced nourishment.

Chef Amrita Raichand recently shared her personal experience of gaining 22 kilos during pregnancy, encouraging women to focus on strength rather than worrying about weight. She noted that during her 10-12 year modeling career, she was particular about her weight but let go of caution during pregnancy. Raichand embraced the weight gain, emphasizing enjoyment and prioritizing nourishment.
Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr. Shruti Chandak confirmed that weight gain is a normal and necessary part of a healthy pregnancy. She stated that familiar, culturally significant foods can provide comfort and are as vital as calories and nutrients. Dr. Chandak advises focusing on nutrient quality over scale numbers, suggesting that traditional foods like bajra-gond laddoos, when eaten in moderation, support maternal energy and fetal growth.
Bajra is noted for its iron, fiber, and slow-releasing energy, beneficial for combating fatigue. Gond is traditionally used for strength and tissue recovery. When combined with healthy fats and nuts, these laddoos offer sustained nourishment. However, Dr. Chandak advises portion control, especially for women with gestational diabetes or digestive issues, and recommends tailoring traditional foods to individual medical needs.
