Chandigarh Celebrates Yoga Day with Record Turnout

Chandigarh residents gathered in large numbers to celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga on Saturday, June 21, 2026. The Union Territory administration hosted a state-level event emphasizing yoga's benefits for physical and mental health.
Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, the chief guest, encouraged citizens to incorporate yoga into their daily routines, stressing its role in achieving balance between body and mind. During the event, he felicitated young Yogasana achievers for their national and international accomplishments.
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) saw a substantial participation of 3,217 individuals in their yoga day event, including Director Dr. Vivek Lal. Participants acknowledged yoga's positive impact on thought and behavior.
Yoga Day was also observed by judicial officers and staff at courts in Mohali and Panchkula. Additionally, the District SVEEP Team combined yoga celebrations with voter awareness at various locations, linking healthy living with democratic participation.
Other institutions, including the State Bank of India's Sector 17 head office and Max Hospital in Mohali, also organized yoga events to mark the occasion.
