Families Fear Homelessness for Loved Ones at Care Facility
4 Mar
Summary
- Specialist care home faces investigation for financial mismanagement.
- Residents' families fear they will become homeless on April 1.
- Regulator examining charity's financial management and governance.

Families expressed profound worry over the uncertain future of William Blake House, a care facility supporting adults with complex needs. The charity, which operates four homes for adults with learning disabilities in Northamptonshire, is currently under investigation by the Charity Commission due to "serious concerns around possible financial mismanagement." This probe will scrutinize the charity's financial handling, including late account filings, potential unmanaged conflicts of interest, and unauthorized personal benefits.
Concerns are particularly acute for families whose loved ones have resided at the home for many years. They fear that by April 1, residents could be left without a place to stay. The lack of communication from the charity has heightened anxiety, with parents describing the situation as a "living nightmare" and expressing difficulty in finding alternative facilities with a similar supportive ethos.
In February, local MP Sarah Bool raised these family concerns in Parliament, highlighting the lack of notice and consultation provided. Meanwhile, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey urged political action, noting the scarcity of such specialized care homes in the country and proposing a family-led rescue plan.
A spokesperson for West Northamptonshire Council stated that they are in regular contact with William Blake House management and expect an update on mitigation plans. The charity has assured that an alternative plan is in progress to ensure continuity of services.
