Robin Ford, from Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, has achieved a remarkable milestone, completing his 250th parkrun ten years after receiving a terminal kidney cancer diagnosis. In 2016, doctors informed him he had only six months to live and would likely not survive until Christmas.
Following intensive chemotherapy that reduced the tumor, Ford underwent surgery to remove parts of his kidney, liver, and pancreas. This difficult period left him weak and reliant on a wheelchair, but he found purpose and recovery through the "5k Your Way" parkrun initiative.
Now, a decade later, Ford celebrates completing 250 parkruns, transforming his initial 45-minute time to 26 minutes. He credits exercise and a supportive community for his survival and well-being, expressing immense gratitude to his medical team and the rehabilitation programs that facilitated his recovery.
