Summary
- A 16-year-old cancer survivor will meet the Pope.
- She battled a rare 14-pound abdominal tumor.
- Her wish turned into a papal audience.

A 16-year-old student from St. Pius X High School is set to have an audience with Pope Leo XIV on May 27. Isabella Solis was diagnosed last year with a nearly 14-pound cancerous tumor in her abdomen. After surgery and eight rounds of chemotherapy in March and April 2025, she is now considered cancer-free.
Isabella's journey began in March 2025 with severe back pain, leading to the discovery of a rare Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor. Despite the challenging treatments, which included her 16th birthday as an inpatient, Isabella remained resilient. Her wish to travel to Rome was fulfilled and enhanced by Make-A-Wish New Mexico, granting her an audience with the Pope.
Inspired by her own experience and the supportive people she met, Isabella plans to pursue a career as a pediatric oncology nurse. Her faith and family were crucial during her ordeal, shifting her perspective and solidifying her desire to help other children facing similar battles.
