New Injection Eradicates Tumors in Cancer Trial
31 May
Summary
- Injection shows unprecedented responses in head and neck cancer patients.
- 42% of patients in the trial saw their tumors shrink.
- The new treatment is an injection, not an IV drip.

Medical experts are reporting unprecedented responses to a new injection, amivantamab, which has eradicated entire tumors in some patients with treatment-resistant head and neck cancer. The international OrigAMI-4 trial involved 102 participants whose cancer had progressed despite chemotherapy and immunotherapy. This innovative drug, administered as a small injection rather than an intravenous drip, achieved significant tumor shrinkage in 43 participants, with complete tumor eradication in 15 cases.
Professor Kevin Harrington of the Institute of Cancer Research highlighted the striking benefits observed in patients with very limited treatment options. The drug, a bispecific monoclonal antibody, targets two key pathways (EGFR and MET) that promote tumor growth and helps activate the immune system against cancer. This approach represents a significant step forward, offering a potentially life-changing therapy for thousands annually.
