Cambodian King Reveals Prostate Cancer Battle

King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia has announced that he has prostate cancer. The 72-year-old constitutional monarch shared this news via a statement on his Facebook account. He revealed that the diagnosis occurred during a routine medical examination in Beijing, China.
King Sihamoni, accompanied by his mother Queen Mother Norodom Monineath, had traveled to China for their scheduled checkups at the end of February. He is set to undergo treatment for the cancer in China. His father, King Norodom Sihanouk, also battled prostate cancer and received medical care in China, eventually passing away at the age of 89 in 2012.
Sihamoni ascended to the throne in October 2004 following his father's abdication. His role is primarily ceremonial, and he maintains a low public profile. Prior to becoming king, he served as Cambodia's Ambassador to UNESCO and was known as a classical ballet dancer.
