Botulism Scare: ByHeart Formula Recalled Nationwide

ByHeart has issued a nationwide recall of all its infant formula products due to potential contamination with botulism-causing bacteria. Laboratory tests found Clostridium botulinum type A in several samples, leading the company to state that all products may be affected. This recall follows reports of 31 infants falling ill since August, with additional cases of botulism linked to the formula occurring even earlier.

Federal and state health officials confirm that dozens of infants nationwide have been treated with BabyBIG, an IV medication for botulism, an unusually high number compared to previous years. Parents and caregivers are strongly advised to immediately stop using ByHeart formula and to monitor infants for symptoms such as constipation, difficulty feeding, and lethargy, which can take up to 30 days to appear.

The company has expanded its refund policy to cover all website purchases made since August 1. This recall represents a major setback for ByHeart, which positions itself as a premium organic brand. The situation exacerbates existing infant formula supply issues, prompting parents to seek alternative feeding options.
