Epileptic Fit Ignites Burn Nightmare: Grafted Skin Horror

In the summer of 2020, Ashley Carber, a mother of two, experienced a life-altering event during what was meant to be a celebratory birthday camping trip. A missed dose of her epilepsy medication led to a seizure, causing her to fall with her leg in a bonfire. This resulted in catastrophic third- and fourth-degree burns, along with nerve damage.

Ashley was rushed to the hospital and subsequently transferred to a specialized burn unit. Due to the severity of her injuries, surgeons performed multiple skin graft surgeries, using donor skin from three different individuals to reconstruct her leg. The process was agonizing, and Ashley spent two months in the hospital, initially unable to walk and relying on pain medication.

Despite the physical and emotional toll, Ashley persevered through her recovery, transitioning from a wheelchair to walking independently. She later found purpose by founding a successful business selling unused medical equipment. Now, Ashley is dedicated to advocating for burn survivors and epilepsy awareness, sharing her story as a testament to resilience and reinvention.
