A section of the redeveloped South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, is now operational, welcoming its first patients. The new emergency department commenced services at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, following a celebratory event Tuesday.
Further enhancements, including a new renal dialysis unit and expanded endoscopy services, are scheduled to open later this month. These additions are part of a phased opening strategy for the hospital's redevelopment. "It is so exciting to finally be ready to move in and start providing care to patients in these new spaces," stated CEO Dr. Nicole Boutilier.
The redevelopment project received significant financial backing, with the South Shore Health Foundation's Brighter Days campaign successfully raising more than $10.8 million. This funding will support improved health and well-being for the community for years to come. Work continues on repurposing former hospital spaces.
