New Hope for Breast Cancer: Drug Resistance Targeted
13 Feb
Summary
- Rs 65 lakh research project awarded for novel steroidal drug molecules.
- Focus on overcoming drug resistance in breast cancer treatment.
- Compounds will be tested on cell lines and animal models.

A significant research endeavor, backed by a Rs 65 lakh grant from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is underway at Panjab University. The project, led by Professor Ranju Bansal, focuses on developing innovative steroidal drug molecules specifically designed to treat breast cancer. A key challenge in breast cancer care is the development of resistance to hormonal therapies, rendering treatments ineffective over time.
This three-year project aims to design and develop steroidal drug candidates that can overcome these resistance mechanisms. The research team will rigorously test potential compounds on various cancer cell lines and validate their potency and efficacy in animal models. Professor Bansal brings extensive experience in anti-cancer drug design, with previous work leading to patented discoveries.
