A dental clinic in Brantford, Ontario, was closed on November 3rd, 2025, following a public health investigation that identified 15 lapses in equipment sterilization procedures. The clinic, Dr. George Chan Dentistry, faced closure after a complaint was filed with Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) on October 29th, 2025. These lapses raised concerns about the potential spread of infections, including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV, through improperly sterilized dental instruments.
In mid-March 2026, GEPH began notifying patients who had received care at the clinic over the past four years. These patients received letters, dated February 26th, 2026, recommending they consult healthcare providers for testing due to possible exposure. A former receptionist at the clinic reported discovering instruments stored improperly and expired materials, prompting her to file the complaint. The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario is also reviewing the GEPH report.
