Migraine Misdiagnosis: Man Told 'Healthy' Had Days to Live
17 Mar
Summary
- A man was misdiagnosed with migraines for 10 years before discovering a brain tumor.
- Doctors revealed he had only days to live without emergency brain surgery.
- He is now recovering and fundraising for a brain tumor charity.

A 27-year-old civil engineer, Luke Taylor, faced a terrifying ordeal after being misdiagnosed with migraines for ten years. His persistent symptoms of excruciating headaches and severe nausea were repeatedly dismissed by GPs as 'just migraines,' despite his insistence on their severity. His condition drastically worsened in July 2025, with daily sickness and debilitating migraines.
Luke's persistence led to an MRI scan at Warrington Hospital, revealing a rare brain tumor called a haemangioblastoma. Doctors informed him that without urgent surgery, he had only days to live. He underwent a nine-hour operation at Walton Hospital in Liverpool, successfully removing the entire tumor. However, complications arose, resulting in a brain hemorrhage that required a second emergency surgery the following day.
After an 18-day hospital stay, Luke was discharged and began a challenging recovery, relearning basic functions like walking and speaking. By November 2025, he received the positive news that the surgery had been entirely successful. He will now undergo regular scans for the next decade to monitor for any recurrence.
In a bid to support others and thank the Brain Tumour Charity, Luke and his partner, Nia Jones, are planning to hike the three Yorkshire peaks on July 18, 2026, to raise vital funds.
