8 Jan

- Chest infection spread to brain, causing paralysis and memory loss.
- Mother's published book raises awareness for brain injury survivors.

A mother from Nottingham issued a dire warning after her son Franki was struck by a rare and potentially fatal condition. What began as a five-week chest infection, accompanied by a leg ache and mild fever, escalated dramatically. Franki was found disoriented and unresponsive, prompting an emergency hospital visit where doctors gave him only an hour to live.
He was placed in an induced coma and diagnosed with a severe combination of meningitis and sepsis, which had spread from a chest infection to his brain. This devastating illness left Franki unable to walk or talk for many months. Despite his remarkable fight for survival, 19 months later, he experiences significant memory loss and requires assistance with daily tasks.
Franki is now gradually returning to school, though he faces considerable learning difficulties due to his memory impairment. His mother, Martine, has channeled her experience into a published book, "The Forest of Remembering," aiming to raise awareness about brain injuries and support other affected families.
