Surgeons in Ahmedabad successfully performed a non-invasive procedure to save a toddler after he swallowed a complete plastic action figure. The 1.5-year-old boy, Vansh, was rushed to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on January 18 following distress and vomiting. His mother realized a 'Hulk' figurine was missing, leading to the discovery via X-ray of the entire toy in his stomach.
The surgical team faced a challenge navigating the valve between the esophagus and stomach due to the toy's size and shape, fearing it could snag and cause damage. Patience and precision allowed them to grip the toy by its head and safely extract it, averting potential fatal intestinal blockage or rupture that would have required major surgery.
Following his recovery and discharge, Vansh's father urged parents to supervise children closely and avoid giving them small or detachable toys. Hospital authorities shared the details of this critical event to raise public awareness about the dangers of small toys in households with young children.
