A nine-year-old boy has completed an extraordinary challenge, running the distance of nine marathons to support The Brain Tumour Charity. Over four months, Oliver ran 380km (236 miles), averaging 3.3km daily, inspired by his father Tom's recent diagnosis of a 4cm meningioma brain tumour.
Tom underwent surgery to remove the tumour after experiencing significant vision loss. Oliver's motivation stemmed from a desire to turn a frightening family experience into a positive outcome. He began his running challenge on January 1st, a month after his father's 12-hour operation in Sheffield.
Oliver initially set a fundraising goal of £2,000 but was astounded to exceed it, raising over £11,000. He expressed happiness in helping families facing similar health struggles. His father has recovered well and has been able to join Oliver on some of his runs, expressing immense pride in his son's dedication and the awareness raised.
The young runner's final 2.6km run will take place at the TCS Mini London Marathon. Despite facing difficult winter conditions, including running in darkness, Oliver persevered. His efforts have not only raised a substantial amount of money but also helped others feel less alone in their suffering.
