Bowel Cancer Survivor Shares 6 Ignored Symptoms
26 Mar
Summary
- Ignoring symptoms for eight months delayed diagnosis.
- Key warning signs included blood in stool and fatigue.
- Early detection and surgery led to a cancer-free life.

A Worcester man is urging others to seek immediate medical attention for concerning symptoms after his own eight-month delay in diagnosis led to stage three bowel cancer. Jon Imondi, 44, initially dismissed several warning signs, including frequent, wet stools, persistent fatigue, and blood in his toilet.
Further symptoms included facial and abdominal bloating, intermittent IBS issues, and a weakened immune system, evidenced by a shingles rash and chest infection. These were ignored for too long before Imondi finally consulted his GP.
His colonoscopy revealed a tumor blocking the camera, leading to a December 2022 diagnosis of stage three bowel cancer. Fears of it spreading to his liver, which would have meant stage four, were thankfully averted.
Imondi underwent successful keyhole surgery to remove the tumor and part of his colon and is now cancer-free. He has Lynch Syndrome, a genetic condition increasing cancer risk, necessitating regular scans and tests.
He strongly advises others to get any symptom checked, emphasizing that no concern is too small. Imondi, who transitioned from IT to build a therapy business, also promotes listening to one's body, nourishing it with healthy foods, and staying active post-diagnosis.
