24 Apr
Summary
- Expired food items including pickle and mayonnaise were found.
- Canteen operated without a license and lacked school administration authorization.
- Officials faced obstruction from school staff during the inspection.

Bokaro district administration has sealed the canteen of DPS Bokaro after a thorough inspection uncovered significant food safety breaches. The action was initiated subsequent to a formal complaint received by the food safety commissioner's office.
During the inspection, critical issues such as the operation of the canteen without an FSSAI license, unhygienic premises, and the absence of essential protective gear for staff were identified. Expired food items, including pickle and mayonnaise, were confiscated, and samples of various food products have been sent for laboratory analysis.
The administration reported facing obstruction from school management members during the inspection. The canteen has been sealed pending the laboratory test results and further orders. The DPS Bokaro management has, however, contested the action, terming it 'biased' and stating the canteen is fully outsourced.
