Bokaro Cops Target Tobacco Violators
23 Aug
Summary
- Police to conduct at least four raids monthly on tobacco law violations.
- Stricter surveillance mandated around schools and hospitals.
- Special campaign against e-cigarettes and prohibited tobacco products planned.

Bokaro police are set to significantly ramp up enforcement of tobacco control legislation, as directed by the Superintendent of Police. All Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA) nodal officers are required to conduct a minimum of four raids each month within their respective police station jurisdictions. This directive underscores a commitment to strict action against tobacco law violators.
Enhanced surveillance will be implemented within 100-meter zones surrounding schools, hospitals, bus stands, government buildings, and courts, where tobacco sales are prohibited. Police will also spearhead a special campaign against the use and sale of e-cigarettes and strengthen checks on other banned tobacco products. This coordinated effort involves collaboration with health and food safety officials to effectively curb violations across Bokaro district.
