Dental Surgery Plans Double in Blackheath
9 Jun
Summary
- Bhandal Dental Practice seeks to expand into the former Barclays bank.
- Expansion aims to double surgery rooms to 16, increasing NHS capacity.
- High demand makes finding an NHS dentist challenging in Blackheath.

A dental practice in Blackheath has submitted plans to Sandwell Council to significantly expand its facilities. Bhandal Dental Practice aims to move into the town's former Barclays bank building, a space that has remained empty since April 2023. The expansion plans include doubling the number of dental rooms to 16, alongside larger waiting areas, offices, and storage.
This growth is a direct response to high demand for NHS dentistry in the Blackheath area, where accessing dental care has become increasingly difficult. The practice has historically operated at full capacity, reflecting the consistent need for its services. The proposed expansion will create eight additional surgeries.
The former Barclays bank building was previously approved for conversion into residential flats in 2024, but this work was not undertaken. The practice's expansion is expected to greatly improve local access to high-quality NHS dental provision.
